Hi darlings. I am excited to share my Apple and Cheese Tarts. Cheesy, flakey and a little sweet these work as fantastic deserts. They are best right out of the oven so the cheese is melty and gooey. They use easy to find ingredients and take less than 5 minutes to assemble.
My fiancé has dubbed these a “cozy snack” after having been my taste tester for a few attempts of these.

Simple Ingredients, Amazing Results
I love that this dessert uses everyday ingredients to make something tasty and beautiful. You may even have a few of these already in your kitchen.
- Babybel Cheese Originals are not just for snacking. I love to use them in this recipe. They come in red wax containers, making them easy to take on the go, and they fit perfectly in my muffin pan.
- Apples- I always have a bunch of apples. It’s one of my favorite healthy snacks. Granny Smith is my goto for this recipe since it has a bright crisp flavor.
- Slivered almonds—I usually keep a few bags of nuts on hand for snacking or salad toppings. I use the unsalted slivered almonds from Whole Foods.
- Pastry Puff- OK, so I only sometimes have this one at the ready, but it’s easy to find at most grocery stores in the freezer section. Follow the instructions to thaw the dough properly.
- Honey- This is a staple I use in many recipes.
- Eggs- Eggs are a staple in my fridge, and they play a crucial role in this recipe. The egg wash is what gives the tart its beautiful golden brown color. Trust me, skipping this step is a mistake you don’t want to make ( I learned from experience ).
Prep Notes
For this recipe you will want to use a standard muffin pan. The one I use is non-toxic and non-stick from Carway. They come in many fun colors and clean up is a breeze. If you have an aluminum muffin tin you will want your goto spray oil or grease to make sure the tarts do not stick to the pan.

When cutting the pastry puff into squares, I try to make sure the corners folder over the side of the pan. This allows me to better add my egg wash and gives your tarts a better golden sheen when they come out of the oven.

Speaking of egg wash-DO NOT SKIP. From my recipe testing I can assure this step is important if you want your pastry puff to have that croissant brown color.

Pairings
This is a great dessert to make for an autumn season dinner party. You could always have Apple Lemon-Pepper Pork Chop as the main entree to keep within the apple theme. Personally, I also think this goes well with a glass Riesling.
The Wrap
Remember to be “grate”-ful each day.
Did you enjoy my cheesy joke? Give thanks and take some time to bring your friends and family around the table to enjoy this dessert together.
This was made with love from my kitchen to yours.

Apple and Cheese Tart
Equipment
- 1 standard muffin tin make sure its large enough to fit the baby bell cheese nicely
- 1 Pastry brush
Ingredients
- 1 pastry puff dough thawed in fridge overnight
- 12 BabyBel Original Cheese rounds
- 2 apple cut into small bite sized peices
- 3 tbsp slivered almonds unsalted
- 2 tbsp honey
- 1 whole eggs lightly whisked
- 1 tbsp water
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Cut your dough into 12 evenly spaced squares and place in your muffin pan. I like to measure the diameter of the muffin opening and ensure your squares are that length. This can easily be done by using a dough cutter.
- Take the Baby Bell Original Cheese out of their wax containers and place in the middle of the pastry puff squares.
- Sprinkle apple bits onto of each cheese wheel.
- Finish with slivered almonds and a light drizzle of honey.
- Using a pastry brush, lightly coat any pastry puff corners that over hang on the pan.
- Place in the oven and cook for 20 minutes or until pastry puff is golden brown.
- Take out and cool on a wire wrack for 3 minutes.
- Serve and enjoy while the cheese is melty.
